While watching an anthropological introduction to YouTube (about an hour long, but worth every minute), I was happy to see this old friend:
It’s like the good parts version of a million fandoms, all mashed together to illustrate the song “Us” by Regina Spektor.
I love the copyright sign standing in for the Batman symbol. The substitution points to an interesting problem of new media: ripping and mixing copyrighted material to create original content. The majority of the online community will, at one time or another, interact with this legal grey area. We’re all “living in a den of thieves,” like it says Spektor’s lyrics, but the thieves are us.
There are so many layers of meaning here, I wont spoil it by blabbing on and on. Just sit back and enjoy.
